DVSSP Prevention Initiatives

Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern PA, like many of the other victim service agencies, seeks to offer primary prevention programs based in research. However, best practice programs are often quite long (8-12 sessions) and many schools and community groups are unable to accommodate the intensity, given other schedule demands. Other, shorter, programs have been developed to meet community requests, though these programs have not been rigorously evaluated to demonstrate effectiveness.

DV Services currently offers a variety of “violence-free” presentations to students, pre-K through college.

Pre-K through Middle School program focus on identifying and naming feelings, positive communication, self-esteem, conflict-resolution and bullying-prevention.

Middle School-College programs address Dating Violence and Cyberbullying.

DV Services also promotes Coaching Boys into Men.
