MAN UP: A Men’s Leadership Workshop with Jackson Katz

On March 14, 2014, a diverse group of more than 250 male leaders gathered for “Man-Up,” a half-day male leadership training at the University Club in Pittsburgh. The room exceeded capacity and was filled with men from a variety of backgrounds including government officials, foundation leaders, corporate executives, community leaders, educators, faith leaders, coaches, and fathers. They came to learn from Jackson Katz, internationally recognized author, educator, and filmmaker. Katz founded Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP), the most widely utilized sexual and domestic violence prevention initiative in college and professional athletics and the US military.

HIS MESSAGE IS FUNDAMENTAL AND ESSENTIAL:

We will not solve community-level violence until we address violence in the home and within the family. Rather than viewing sexual and domestic violence as women’s issues, Katz argues that these issues are vitally important to men, especially men in positions of leadership in their families, communities, professional life, and politics.
