A Call to Men: A Call to Action with Tony Porter
On September 11, 2014, Tony Porter, internationally known author, activist, and lecturer, educated more than 200 participants about healthy masculinity and men’s roles in ending violence against women and girls.
His agency, A CALL TO MEN, challenges communities to think differently about the ways we raise boys, including how rigid messages of manhood create pain and isolation and ultimately promote violence.
Porter demonstrated that the unwritten rules, agreements, and codes of silence expected of men have created an environment that supports, tolerates, and often encourages men’s violence against women. He provided practical solutions and encouraged well-meaning men—men who, for the most part, don’t see themselves as part of the problem—to take action. This day-long training also highlighted local men who have taken a stand to prevent violence against women and girls.
