East End Cooperative Ministry Prevention Initiatives
EECM has always recognized that the children and families it touches have been affected by trauma and violence, including sexual assault and domestic violence. Services for children are designed to address the many traumas they have faced, to help them heal, and to break cycles of violence in the future. In this context, EECM has embraced primary prevention of domestic and sexual violence. Staff attended Jackson Katz Man-Up workshop and A Call to Men: A Call to Action with Tony Porter, and have sought training in Coaching Boys into Men and have been working to incorporate these approaches into services for youth.
Additionally, EECM has partnered with Pittsburgh Area Jewish Committee, Christian Associates of Southwest PA, South Hills Interfaith Ministries, FISA Foundation, The Heinz Endowments, and the United Way of Allegheny County to produce an event for clergy and faith leaders to learn about prevention efforts.
